Hi everyone! I wanted to take you with me on a stroll through the Art Walk here in San Jose del Cabo, an incredible activity you can do with your family. If you’re in the area, you have to come; it takes place every Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m..
At first, I thought this event only happened from November to June—that’s what I read on the internet!. But while I was talking with one of the artists, he kindly corrected me and explained that, actually, the Art Walk is held all year long, which is fantastic news. He also told me that many of the artists go to Cabo San Lucas to sell their art on Fridays.
The atmosphere here is vibrant; the streets fill up with people strolling and exploring at night. It’s a very busy and lively place. Besides the galleries, there are many famous restaurants and bars around here, like La Lupita, where I recommend you try their tacos and mezcal—they are amazing!—or Baja Brewing, another very popular spot.
During my tour, I came across some fascinating art. For example, I went into a gallery where the art is interactive. With a free app you download on your phone, the art pieces literally “come to life” and show movement. The mission behind these works, as they explained to me, is to “share love and faith”. To give you an idea of the prices, a small piece cost $69 USD, and a larger one was $500 USD.
I continued my walk to the central plaza, where the kiosco is, and there I found so many local artists displaying their paintings. I met a painter originally from Oaxaca, who explained that he expresses his emotions in his work. One of his paintings of a specific size cost $1,200 USD.
I also had the pleasure of speaking with an artist named Alen, whose work is truly unique. She creates her art using natural pigments. She showed me how she uses an insect to get pink tones and a fermented plant to create blues. She told me she moved to this area because she was “enchanted by the ocean” and the incredible community of artists she found here. One of her paintings was priced at 2,500 Mexican pesos, which is about $150 USD!.
What I’ve shown you is just a small part of everything you can find here. There are so many artists, galleries, and shops to discover. Truly, if you are in San Jose or Cabo San Lucas, I totally recommend you come to the Art Walk. It’s a wonderful experience to enjoy with family or friends.
